The annual Union World Conference on Lung Health 2022 convenes some of the most influential partners, leaders, and decisionmakers in tuberculosis (TB) and the field of lung health. This year’s theme, “Combatting Pandemics: Today & Tomorrow,” highlights a renewed commitment toward tackling the TB pandemic.

Use of WHO collaborative procedure for accelerated registration to facilitate access to quality-assured tuberculosis medicines in Uzbekistan

Learn how the Promoting the Quality of Medicines Plus (PQM+) program, funded by USAID and led by USP, worked with Uzbekistan authorities to ensure a reliable supply of quality-assured TB medicines. Thanks to a World Health Organization (WHO) collaborative procedure for accelerated registration of prequalified medicines, the country reduced registration times for six TB products to an average of 35 days and decreased registration fees by 40 percent.

USAID’s Cure TB Project, led by JSI in partnership with USP, is helping TB laboratory networks in the Kyrgyz Republic better diagnose, treat, and cure people with multi-drug resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB). Through a situational analysis, which included quantitative lab assessments and qualitative interviews of 60 national, regional, and district level TB stakeholders, we found gaps in identifying costs in financing TB laboratories that prevent the government from ensuring budgetary requests are sufficiently funded.
