Alliances
Throughout its history, USP has had strong relationships with international bodies, pharmacopoeias and regulatory authorities in many countries. It has advanced these relationships by hosting annual joint science meetings and symposia in various parts of the world to facilitate exchange of scientific information and relationship building. Over the past decade, USP has collaborated with organizations to host meetings and stakeholder forums in India, China, Latin America, the Middle East, and North Africa. MOUs signed with standards-setting groups, government agencies, and industry organizations in 2008 and 2009 have solidified these partnerships. These MOUs foster collaboration in development of standards, verification activities, training, and exchange of scientific staff. An example of this alliance-building was a joint symposium in Tianjin, China, where issues discussed included collaboration between USP and the Chinese Pharmacopoeia Commission with regard to developing standards for Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).
