ROCKVILLE, MD, March. 14, 2024 - United States Pharmacopeia (USP) welcomed a distinguished delegation from the Government of India to USP's hub in Rockville, Maryland today, demonstrating the continued collaboration between the Government of India and USP. The delegation included Joint Secretary of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Rajiv Wadhawan and Drugs Controller General of India Rajeev Raghuvanshi.
Officials from the Embassy of India to the United States also accompanied the delegation.
Dr. Raghuvanshi also serves as the Secretary of the Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC), an institution under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare that is responsible for setting standards for drugs manufactured within India. During the visit, USP and IPC signed a Memorandum of Understanding, indicating our ongoing commitment to collaborate to support the production of quality pharmaceuticals.
“We extend our heartfelt welcome to this distinguished delegation,” said Ronald Piervincenzi, Ph.D., USP Chief Executive Officer. “This visit underscores the importance of international collaboration in shaping quality standards for medicines, strengthening the supply chain, and improving public health globally.”
The visit marks a key moment in the ongoing collaboration between USP and India. Last October, the IPC joined the Pharmacopeial Discussion Group (PDG), an international group formed for the purpose of harmonizing pharmacopeial standards.
In addition to signing the MOU, the delegation toured USP labs and shared their insights and perspectives about pharmaceutical opportunities and challenges in India in a fireside chat discussion with Dr. Piervincenzi.
