U.S. Pharmacopeia’s Dr. Farah Towfic Recognized as an International Pharmaceutical Federation’s Women in Science and Education Rising Star

Rockville, Md., July 18, 2022U.S. Pharmacopeia (USP) is pleased to announce that Farah Towfic, PharmD, MBA, RPh, Director of CEO Operations is among the inaugural list of FIPWiSE Rising Stars, an international selection of pharmacists, pharmaceutical scientists and pharmaceutical educators who have demonstrated achievements, innovations, and significant impacts in pharmaceutical sciences and/or pharmacy education. The 2022 list includes women (or those who identify as female) from 14 countries, Towfic is the sole awardee from the United States.

Towfic is being honored for her numerous efforts in the pharmacy field which positively impact healthcare practitioners, patients, and colleagues. At USP, she works in collaboration with scientific expert committees and was central to work to develop the USP COVID-19 Vaccine Handling Toolkit, so those preparing, transporting, and administering authorized COVID-19 vaccines can do so efficiently and safely, while maximizing shots in arms, minimizing waste, and helping to increase public trust in vaccine quality. The toolkit has also been adapted to support international vaccine efforts.

Towfic, who also volunteered to administer COVID-19 vaccinations, further advances her profession through service, which includes serving as chair of the UI College of Pharmacy Genesis Advisory Board. Prior to joining USP, she facilitated the adoption of technology across multiple independent community pharmacies that created significant time for patient interactions, improving both the patient experience and pharmacist job satisfaction.

She received her master of business administration from the University of Wisconsin and doctor of pharmacy degree from the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy.
