With a mission to improve global health through public standards, it’s essential that USP be guided by broad and diverse perspectives. From the thousands of expert volunteers who have given their time to develop USP standards to the nearly 450 Convention Member Organizations committed to helping shape USP’s areas of focus, USP always prioritizes an independent and collaborative approach to its work. 

To this end, the Convention Membership represents perspectives, experiences, and expertise from across healthcare and science and from around the globe. Member Organizations are vital to USP’s ability to sustain its pivotal role in building trust where it matters most: in the world’s medicines, dietary supplements, and foods.

Path to membership

Convention Members

Convention Member Organizations are recommended by the Council of the Convention and approved by the Board of Trustees. Once they accept USP's Membership invitation, each Member Organization appoints a Delegate. Delegates perform an important role, representing their organization's perspective as the Convention helps to shape USP's work and impact. They serve as a link between our two organizations, sharing information, highlighting opportunities, and inviting others to participate in events and initiatives. And at the start of each cycle, Delegates adopt proposed Resolutions that provide strategic guidance for USP, amend USP's Bylaws, and elect the Council of Experts and Board of Trustees.

Associate Members

Associate Members can be either individuals or organizations. While Associate Members do not have voting rights, they contribute to critical discussions, sharing valuable perspectives and knowledge. Associate Members are invited to join the USP Convention by the Council of the Convention, with their membership lasting through the end of the five-year cycle, after the regular membership meeting.
