Global Harmonization

In addition to the Pharmacopeial Discussion Group that works to retrospectively harmonize excipient standards and some general tests and assays, USP works with other world pharmacopeias with an eye toward to globally harmonizing standards. For instance, USP co-hosted the first Global Summit of the Pharmacopoeias in Beijing, China, with the Chinese Pharmacopoeia Commission and WHO. Nearly 20 pharmacopeias and regulatory authorities attended. USP co-hosted a second Global Summit of the Pharmacopoeias in Xi-an, China in September 2012. USP is committed to working with the world's pharmacopoeias and the World Health Organization to continue the harmonizing efforts begun nearly 150 years ago.
